Daniel Zorita might have been able to make a better finish in the 38th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Gar Cumbres. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Daniel Zorita ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 41st minute, Daniel Zorita left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Ecuador fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-3. After the first half Ecuador were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Daniel Zorita stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Agustín Saelices scored 0-4 in the 55th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Gar Cumbres, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Adan Catalan in the 62nd minute of play. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Chandozos was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 63 match minutes in a wonderful position. Carlo Faso didn't get a good kick on the ball.
