The referee ignored Venezuela's protests and gave Joshua Secada a yellow card for diving instead. After 4 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Joshua Secada. Hector Jerardo scored 1-0 in the 13th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Jonathan Ferrant, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Jonathan Ferrant showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Salvador Iztal in the 16th minute of the match. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Jonathan Venegas during the 17th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Jonathan Ferrant made a fantastic save in the 18th minute, when Paulino Vellito sent off a good shot on target. In the 23rd minute of the match, Hector Jerardo got a very nice opportunity to score, but Jonathan Ferrant was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. In the 25th minute of the match Deportivo Messina got a corner. Venezuela's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Paulino Vellito ran over to the corner to take the kick. After taking down the ball on Deportivo Messina's corner Paulino Vellito fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Jonathan Ferrant quite easily take care of the ball. If Tomas Illescas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Venezuela's Alex Chicote got a free kick in the 36th minute. The supporters of Deportivo Messina booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 40 match minutes in a wonderful position. Patricio Costa didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Teodosio Ascencio had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 43 minutes, Tomas Illescas managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Venezuela's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tomas Illescas was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Yuriy Babushkin showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Patricio Costa in the 44th minute of the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Tomas Illescas in the 46th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Yuriy Babushkin prevented the ball from getting in the gole. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Tomas Illescas in the 46th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Yuriy Babushkin saved Deportivo Messina from getting behind. When Venezuela's Tomas Illescas in the 46th minute got a chance for a shot 46th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Deportivo Messina's goalie prevented a goal. Deportivo Messina's Luis Cordario was substituted for Rene Pierres. Deportivo Messina's Jonathan Guillerme was substituted for Paulino Vellito. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Tomas Illescas to make the kick off. The supporters of Venezuela booed when Deportivo Messina was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gabriel Bizen didn't get a good kick on the ball. Venezuela's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Tomas Illescas in the 55th minute. 56 minutes into the game, Hector Jerardo cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-0. Jonathan Ferrant was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Teodosio Ascencio in the 59th minute of play. Hector Jerardo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 61st minute. Jonathan Ferrant tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. A collision led to Deportivo Messina getting a freekick after 66 minutes play. Jonathan Guillerme hit a great ball. Yuriy Babushkin showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tomas Illescas in the 71st minute of the match. Hector Jerardo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 73rd minute. Jonathan Ferrant tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 77th minute Domingo Jakue shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathan Ferrant saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 81st minute, Gabriel Bizen hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 84th minute the ball was on its way in behind Deportivo Messina's goalkeeper Yuriy Babushkin, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Domingo Jakue sent away a hard shot on goal in the 86th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Teodosio Ascencio came up free with the goalie in the 87th minute, the Deportivo Messina fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Teodosio Ascencio couldn't finish the play. Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luis Cordario in the 90th minute of play. Jonathan Guillerme kicked well hit freekick during the 94th minute of the match. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Deportivo Messina fully deserved thier win.
