The referee showed Amancio Bilintx the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. 40 minutes into the match, Newell´s's goal looked a bit too open when Virgílio Serpa came free, but Cristobal Estavan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Cristobal Estavan showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Kostas Sourpis in the 45th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Newell´s's Isidoro Ramires got a free kick in the 47th minute. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

If Omar Cordara had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 60th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Teófilo Belém stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Omar Cordara's shot from short distance in the 64th minute. In the 66th minute Amancio Bilintx shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Teófilo Belém saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A collision led to Newell´s getting a freekick after 69 minutes play. Faustino Maura hit a great ball. After having played for 69 minutes, Frits Evenhuis managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. MC ESPANHOL's supporters crossed their fingers, but Frits Evenhuis was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Cristobal Estavan made a fantastic save in the 72nd minute, when Frits Evenhuis sent off a good shot on target. Omar Cordara received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 74th minute. Teófilo Belém tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 75 minutes into the match, MC ESPANHOL's goal looked a bit too open when Omar Cordara came free, but Teófilo Belém reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When the match had gone on for 77 minutes, Virgílio Serpa took a quick shot and it went in 0-1 without a chance for Cristobal Estavan to make any attempt to save it. Cristobal Estavan made an important save on a dangerous shot by Severino Ribeiro in the 79th minute. In the 81st minute, Amancio Bilintx made a precise shot to the right of Teófilo Belém. MC ESPANHOL's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Piarres Hermida in the 86th minute of play forced Newell´s's goalkeeper Cristobal Estavan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
