The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The Club Gardel fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Nisio Soldevila should have stopped the shot. 19 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Tytus Damazki came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Nisio Soldevila took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Felix Montenegro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 24th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Nisio Soldevila showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. Cristian Sancho struck a weak shot in the 30th minute. Nisio Soldevila didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Cristian Sancho was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Nisio Soldevila breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Nisio Soldevila showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Daniel Zorita in the 46th minute of the match. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Daniel Zorita made a kick off. Thanks to some nice moves Daniel Zorita could shoot a difficult shot in the 52nd minute, which Nisio Soldevila however easily saved by the left post. Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a good chance for a goal in the 58th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Cristian Sancho struck a weak shot in the 63rd minute. Pascual Vasco helped the player get up and apologised. Ecuador made a substitution. Max Alvarado replaced Camilo Gisbert. In the 91st match minute, Club Gardel was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Pascual Vasco to maneuver through the defense. When Daniel Zorita came up free with the goalie in the 92nd minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Daniel Zorita couldn't finish the play.
