Spectators: 45 (Terracing: 35, Seating: 10, VIP seats: 0) 5 minutes into the game, Ecuador's Cristian Sancho nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Cafu Negri made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Cafu Negri didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Agustín Saelices went, in the 12th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. In the 15th minute, Marcelo Zalayeta ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Julio Vera was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-2. Cafu Negri took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Cafu Negri made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luis Andino in the 26th minute of play. In the 27th minute Marcelo Zalayeta shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 31st minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cafu Negri saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ecuador's Julio Vera proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 34th minute of the match, managed to save Ecuador from getting a goal against them. Cafu Negri stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Cristian Sancho's shot from short distance in the 38th minute. When the match clock showed 40 minutes, the score became 1-3 when Cristian Sancho sped through PEÑAROL ORO Y CARBON's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Cafu Negri. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The wind increased when Agustín Alvarez made the kick off in the second half. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Agustín Alvarez, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. PEÑAROL ORO Y CARBON's Cafu Negri played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 66th minute of play. Cristian Sancho's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Cafu Negri read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 68th minute of play. PEÑAROL ORO Y CARBON made a substitution. Procopio Mayorga replaced Agustín Alvarez. PEÑAROL ORO Y CARBON's Rogelio Cosca was substituted for Usain Bolt. In the 70th minute of the match Ecuador got a corner. PEÑAROL ORO Y CARBON's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Daniel Zorita ran over to the corner to take the kick. A well-hit corner resulted in Luis Andino heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. Rogelio Cosca recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 73rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Cafu Negri made an important save on a dangerous shot by Agustín Saelices in the 75th minute. Marcelo Zalayeta might have been able to make a better finish in the 75th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Julio Vera. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Marcelo Zalayeta ran back to his position shaking his head. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Marcelo Zalayeta in the 76th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Procopio Mayorga in the 93rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Julio Vera saved Ecuador from getting behind. In the 94th minute Rogelio Cosca shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
