The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luca Zorita in the 3rd minute of play forced PEÑAROL ORO Y CARBON's goalkeeper Cafu Negri to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 5th minute of the game Macos Graciani made a throw-in which Luca Rouco played forward. Alberto Tafalla fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 9th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cafu Negri having to interfere. In the 19th minute Joel Gaona shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cafu Negri saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Mexico's Dante Lacasa proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 25th minute of the match, managed to save Mexico from getting a goal against them. If Marcelo Zalayeta had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Agustín Alvarez in the 28th minute of play forced Mexico's goalkeeper Dante Lacasa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Cafu Negri didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Alberto Tafalla went, in the 46th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. After the first half Mexico were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Joel Gaona to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 56thth minute of the game Agustín Alvarez who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Mexico's Dante Lacasa was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. PEÑAROL ORO Y CARBON's Agustín Alvarez got a good chance for a goal in the 56th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Cafu Negri made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alberto Tafalla in the 60th minute of play. Cafu Negri took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alberto Tafalla, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Cafu Negri made an important save on a dangerous shot by Lautaro Mancebo in the 62nd minute. After 62nd play minutes Lautaro Mancebo shot 0-2, a short shot which went by Cafu Negri and just under the crossbar into goal. PEÑAROL ORO Y CARBON made a substitution. After a rather tough play, Mexico's Felix Luque got a free kick in the 67th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 68th minute, Helder Jares managed to get in a good position for a shot. Dante Lacasa breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Dante Lacasa showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rogelio Cosca in the 93rd minute of the match. Cafu Negri came out of the goal in the 95th minute to try and stop a shot by Mexico's Alberto Tafalla. But to his dismay, Alberto Tafalla quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-3.
