In the 9th match minute, Verwachting was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Twan Hesseling to maneuver through the defense. Christijan Schreuder who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 12thth minute tested the skills of Julio Vera when he managed to save the team from getting behind. When the match had gone on for 14 minutes, Christijan Schreuder took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Julio Vera to make any attempt to save it. Herbert Hilhorst stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Daniel Zorita's shot from short distance in the 20th minute. Herbert Hilhorst made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 27th minute of play. 30 minutes into the match, Cristian Sancho had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Herbert Hilhorst. Verwachting's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Cristian Sancho was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ruud Geels, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Cristian Sancho in the 42nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Herbert Hilhorst saved Verwachting from getting behind. With an all-out effort, Verwachting's Julio Vera threw himself towards the right post 43 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Ruud Geels, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. In the 44th minute Verwachting were awarded a corner. Harm de Freitas went to the cornerflag to take it. A nice corner shot did that Harm de Freitas got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Julio Vera quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Verwachting's Herbert Hilhorst played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 46th minute of play. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The wind increased when Christijan Schreuder made the kick off in the second half. A collision led to Verwachting getting a freekick after 51 minutes play. Adriaan Kuypers hit a great ball. Herbert Hilhorst made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luis Andino in the 59th minute of play. 59 minutes into the game, Ecuador's Luis Andino nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Herbert Hilhorst made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. Agustín Saelices kicked well hit freekick during the 61st minute of the match. A sloppy throw-in by Felix Montenegro in the 64th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Verwachting's Vincent Koekkoek. After some fancy dribbling in the 64th minute, Oliver van Kampen managed to get in a good position for a shot. Verwachting's supporters rose to their feet, but Oliver van Kampen was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Julio Vera breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Thanks to some nice moves Cristian Sancho could shoot a difficult shot in the 69th minute, which Herbert Hilhorst however easily saved by the left post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Twan Hesseling in the 70th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 72 minutes had been played when some careless play by Ecuador's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Harm de Freitas was slow to take the kick. During this time Verwachting's players had a chance to rest. In the 73rd minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Herbert Hilhorst saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Vincent Koekkoek charged in rather forcefully in the 81st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Vincent Koekkoek the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Vincent Koekkoek hit a great freekick 81 minutes into the match. When Christijan Schreuder came up free with the goalie in the 83rd minute, the Verwachting fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Christijan Schreuder couldn't finish the play. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 85th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 87 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Twan Hesseling came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Verwachting was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 91 match minutes in a wonderful position. Adriaan Kuypers didn't get a good kick on the ball.
