Daniel Zorita's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Esteban Dreer read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 4th minute of play. GALACTICOS's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Elco Vid in the 7th minute. Julio Vera made an important save on a dangerous shot by Noel Hägele in the 9th minute. Noel Hägele might have been able to make a better finish in the 11th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Julio Vera. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Noel Hägele ran back to his position shaking his head. 11 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Noel Hägele. Esteban Dreer made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luis Andino in the 13th minute of play. A collision led to GALACTICOS getting a freekick after 16 minutes play. Erk Hong hit a great ball. Clóvis Lago hit a great freekick 19 minutes into the match. 22 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Noel Hägele came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Noel Hägele's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Julio Vera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 26th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Cristian Sancho in the 29th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Esteban Dreer saved GALACTICOS from getting behind. Esteban Dreer showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 33rd minute of the match. Julio Vera made an important save on a dangerous shot by Alfredo Palos in the 35th minute. Esteban Dreer stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Daniel Zorita's shot from short distance in the 36th minute. When the match clock showed 38 minutes, the score became 0-1 when Cristian Sancho sped through GALACTICOS's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Esteban Dreer. After 42 minutes, Alessandro Nesta mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the GALACTICOS and the Ecuador players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 42nd minute, Alessandro Nesta hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 44 minutes into the game, Camilo Gisbert was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Ecuador's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave GALACTICOS the free kick. Camilo Gisbert kicked well hit freekick during the 44th minute of the match. In the 45th minute Noel Hägele shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 47 minutes had been played when some careless play by Ecuador's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Elco Vid was slow to take the kick. During this time GALACTICOS's players had a chance to rest. The corner ended in Elco Vid almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Ecuador's Julio Vera did a great save. After the first half Ecuador were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Daniel Zorita was the one to do the kick off. In the 52nd minute, Noel Hägele got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Esteban Dreer showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 54th minute. In the 57th minute GALACTICOS were awarded a corner. Elco Vid went to the cornerflag to take it. A nice corner shot did that Elco Vid got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Julio Vera quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Noel Hägele in the 61st minute of play. Daniel Zorita's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Esteban Dreer read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 63rd minute of play. In the 66th minute of the match GALACTICOS got a corner. Ecuador's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Elco Vid ran over to the corner to take the kick. Noel Hägele sent away a hard shot on goal in the 68th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Noel Hägele, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With a little luck, GALACTICOS's Esteban Dreer got control of the ball when Cristian Sancho tried to sneak it across the goal line. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Noel Hägele, who was totally free with the ball in the 77th minute. Felix Montenegro struck a weak shot in the 83rd minute. Esteban Dreer didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. After 87 minutes of play, GALACTICOS's Noel Hägele made it 1-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Julio Vera was left in no man's land by his defense there! 95 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Noel Hägele came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
