Sven-Ove Frykberg made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Felix Montenegro in the 24th minute of play. Cristian Sancho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Sven-Ove Frykberg tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Julio Vera made a fantastic save in the 29th minute, when Viviano Baños sent off a good shot on target. The crowd rose to their feet as Viviano Baños kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Julio Vera. That made the score 1-1 in the 30 minute of play. Sven-Ove Frykberg came out of the goal in the 35th minute to try and stop a shot by Ecuador's Agustín Saelices. But to his dismay, Agustín Saelices quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-2. 37 minutes into the match, Новгород TS's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Sven-Ove Frykberg reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Yakov Blokhin in the 45th minute of play. 46 minutes had been played when some careless play by Ecuador's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Igor Braginskiy was slow to take the kick. During this time Новгород TS's players had a chance to rest. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Denílson Scherer made a kick off. When Veniamin Kulagin fell near the penalty area in the 53rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. Thanks to some nice moves Daniel Zorita could shoot a difficult shot in the 60th minute, which Sven-Ove Frykberg however easily saved by the left post. Veniamin Kulagin hit a great freekick 64 minutes into the match. In the 72nd minute, Ecuador's Cristian Sancho ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Sven-Ove Frykberg. Sven-Ove Frykberg yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-3. Новгород TS made a substitution. Zhuang Ting Yuan replaced Yakov Blokhin. The supporters of Новгород TS booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 79 match minutes in a wonderful position. Felix Montes didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 84th match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Luis Andino to maneuver through the defense. In the 90th minute the ball was on its way in behind Новгород TS's goalkeeper Sven-Ove Frykberg, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 92nd minute of the match, Daniel Zorita got a very nice opportunity to score, but Sven-Ove Frykberg was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Sven-Ove Frykberg showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Agustín Saelices, who was totally free with the ball in the 94th minute. Ecuador's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
