Clóvis Velloso's late challenge caught a Paraguay's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Clóvis Velloso helped the player get up and apologised. Clóvis Velloso hit a great freekick 3 minutes into the match. Sidnei Branco fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 5th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jacobo Nores having to interfere. Hector Covarrubias received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 9th minute. Paulão Corrêa tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 17 played minutes Lakers FC got a freekick which was hit by Álvaro Paiva. Jaime Pardo might have been able to make a better finish in the 23rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Paulão Corrêa. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Jaime Pardo ran back to his position shaking his head. When Hector Covarrubias came up free with the goalie in the 32nd minute, the Paraguay fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Hector Covarrubias couldn't finish the play. The supporters of Paraguay booed when Lakers FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position. Romeu Barbosa didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 45 played minutes, Paraguay's Jaime Pardo shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Paulão Corrêa came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Paraguay reached it. After 46 minutes, Percival Magalhães mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Lakers FC and the Paraguay players grew even worse after the yellow card. Percival Magalhães kicked well hit freekick during the 46th minute of the match. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Paulão Corrêa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jaime Pardo, who was totally free with the ball in the 52nd minute. When Xavier Zoido fell near the penalty area in the 55th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Paraguay's protests and gave Xavier Zoido a yellow card for diving instead. Oséas Capixaba, 56 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. In the 64th minute, Adhemar Montenegro got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 66 minutes into the match, Lakers FC's goalkeeper Paulão Corrêa had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Jaime Pardo. Jaime Pardo charged in rather forcefully in the 67th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Jaime Pardo the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 67th minute, Jaime Pardo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. A sloppy throw-in by Sidnei Branco in the 70th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Paraguay's Alan Campos. 72 minutes into the match, Paraguay's goal looked a bit too open when Sidnei Branco came free, but Jacobo Nores reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jaime Pardo struck a weak shot in the 74th minute. Paulão Corrêa didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Paraguay. If Sidnei Branco had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jaime Pardo could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 82nd minute of the match, but Paulão Corrêa made a huge save. In the 82ndth minute of the game Jaime Pardo who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Lakers FC's Paulão Corrêa was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Paraguay were clearly unhappy with the draw, as they felt they had done enough to earn themselves a victory.
