Tomas Illescas fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Willy Herzog having to interfere. 27 minutes in the game Edwin Åberg did a throw-in, and the ball was quickly in game thanks to Oscar Molina. In the 31st minute the ball was on its way in behind Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar.
