A collision led to Leones FC getting a freekick after 14 minutes play. Edgardo Calvino hit a great ball. After a rather tough play, Leones FC's Alejo Louis got a free kick in the 17th minute. After 18 played minutes, Sydney FC's Thorben Rittmann shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Aureliano Obeko came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Sydney FC reached it. Leonardo Poz struck a weak shot in the 22nd minute. Florian Guderian didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Leones FC. Leones FC's Leonardo Poz got a good chance for a goal in the 24th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 31st minute of the match, Leonardo Poz tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Florian Guderian saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. In the 32nd minute of the match Leones FC got a corner. Sydney FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Gaspar Sabin ran over to the corner to take the kick. A nice corner shot did that Gaspar Sabin got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Florian Guderian quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Constantino Ongile hit a great freekick 46 minutes into the match. Sydney FC made a substitution. Pierre Möhn replaced Kees Plappert. After a rather tough play, Leones FC's Constantino Ongile got a free kick in the 47th minute. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Gaspar Sabin to strike the kick off in the second half. If Thorben Rittmann had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Sydney FC players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
