Seating: 10, VIP seats: 0) Costa Rica's Axel Tasis started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 8th match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Eliseo Noboa to maneuver through the defense. Juan Rubio hit a great freekick 10 minutes into the match. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Walter Mutuku in the 11th minute of play. Rothwell Park's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Sammy Keino in the 14th minute. In the 15th minute, Lautaro Puig hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 16th minute, Walter Mutuku ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Benito Sanz was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. Benito Sanz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Walter Mutuku, who was totally free with the ball in the 21st minute. Walter Mutuku took the ball and in the 26 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Benito Sanz. Benito Sanz dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. A collision led to Rothwell Park getting a freekick after 28 minutes play. Urpo Kanerva hit a great ball. Benito Sanz was a little too slow when Walter Mutuku got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 32nd minute. The score was now 3-0. In the 35th minute, Rothwell Park's Walter Mutuku dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 4-0. After 39 played minutes Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Efrain Moruga. The audience thought a goal was coming when Walter Mutuku got free with Benito Sanz in the 46th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Walter Mutuku to strike the kick off in the second half. Benito Sanz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Walter Mutuku, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Rothwell Park's Tony Githinji Muhoho proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 52nd minute of the match, managed to save Rothwell Park from getting a goal against them. 54 minutes into the match, Eliseo Noboa dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Tony Githinji Muhoho, 5-1. After 56 played minutes Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Efrain Moruga. Rothwell Park's Abdallah Ali Bungei was substituted for Elijah Leakey. In the 58th minute, Efrain Moruga hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eliseo Noboa in the 63rd minute of play forced Rothwell Park's goalkeeper Tony Githinji Muhoho to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With an all-out effort, Costa Rica's Tony Githinji Muhoho threw himself towards the right post 72 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Axel Tasis, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Costa Rica's Benito Sanz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Walter Mutuku in the 74th minute of play. Benito Sanz came out of the goal in the 76th minute to try and stop a shot by Rothwell Park's Walter Mutuku. But to his dismay, Walter Mutuku quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 6-1. Rothwell Park made a substitution. William Mohamed replaced Walter Mutuku. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from William Mohamed in the 81st minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by William Mohamed in the 84th minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When William Mohamed came up free with the goalie in the 85th minute, the Rothwell Park fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that William Mohamed couldn't finish the play. William Mohamed struck a weak shot in the 92nd minute. Benito Sanz didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Rothwell Park. After 94 played minutes Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Eliseo Noboa. When the referee ended the match the Rothwell Park players were able to celebrate. They had won a fair victory and recieved the ovations of their fans.
