Joel Gaona scored 1-2 in the 28th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Necmettin Bozdoğan, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Dante Lacasa was a little too slow when Altay Mengübay got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 37th minute. The score was now 2-2. 40 minutes into the game, Mexico's Lautaro Mancebo nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Mexico eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
