Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Fidel Jokin in the 12th minute of play. 13 minutes into the game, Ecuador's Luis Andino nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Gervasio Ixaka made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-1. Agustín Saelices struck a weak shot in the 21st minute. Gervasio Ixaka didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Vipos FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nasos Aquilino didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 26th minute of play forced Vipos FC's goalkeeper Gervasio Ixaka to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Camilo Gisbert's late challenge caught a Vipos FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. After a defensive mix-up in Ecuador's zone, Miguel Castanheira stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Julio Vera came out of the goal and Miguel Castanheira tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Many of Ecuador's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Ecuador may have spent more time on the ball, but Vipos FC were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
