With an extended leg and a bit of luck Joaquin Gayoso prevented the ball from getting in the gole. A collision led to Uruguay getting a freekick after 37 minutes play. Jan-Olof Eliasson hit a great freekick 43 minutes into the match. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

La Gallardeta's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
