Sidney Forbes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 8th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The audience was convinced that Sidney Forbes's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 10th minute of the game. Farid Mondragón took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Sancho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ecuador's Julio Vera proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 23rd minute of the match, managed to save Ecuador from getting a goal against them. 26 minutes into the match, C. A. Independiente's goal looked a bit too open when Felix Montenegro came free, but Farid Mondragón reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Julio Vera made an important save on a dangerous shot by Kerry Sellers in the 28th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 37th minute, Felix Montenegro managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Felix Montenegro was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Farid Mondragón breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Agustín Saelices got a free kick in the 42nd minute. A hard shot 45 in the game by Xu Yun Quan from a close distance when the talented Julio Vera managed to make a qualified save. Ecuador's players were relieved.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Xu Yun Quan to strike the kick off in the second half. Daniel Zorita struck a weak shot in the 54th minute. Farid Mondragón didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. C. A. Independiente's Xu Yun Quan got a good chance for a goal in the 56th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Claudio Marangoni struck a weak shot in the 59th minute. Julio Vera didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for C. A. Independiente. Farid Mondragón showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 74th minute of the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Xu Yun Quan in the 75th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Julio Vera prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After 75 minutes, Xu Yun Quan made it 2-1 with a short kick to the right side. Ecuador's Julio Vera tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. 79 minutes into the match, C. A. Independiente's goal looked a bit too open when Agustín Saelices came free, but Farid Mondragón reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A collision led to C. A. Independiente getting a freekick after 81 minutes play. Claudio Marangoni hit a great ball. The supporters of Ecuador booed when C. A. Independiente was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 82 match minutes in a wonderful position. Claudio Marangoni didn't get a good kick on the ball. Farid Mondragón was out of position in the 85 minute of play, and Cristian Sancho capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Cristian Sancho really showed his touch with that goal: 2-2. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Farid Mondragón having to interfere.
