Cristian Sancho's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Alfredo Lucantoni read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 8th minute of play. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alex Cirigliano in the 16th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luis Andino in the 19th minute of play forced Red Sox's goalkeeper Alfredo Lucantoni to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some careless play in the Red Sox defense, Luis Andino kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Alfredo Lucantoni. The Red Sox fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Alfredo Lucantoni should have stopped the shot. After some fancy dribbling in the 22nd minute, Felix Montenegro managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Felix Montenegro was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Alfredo Lucantoni breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 26 minutes into the match, Red Sox's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Alfredo Lucantoni reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Cristian Sancho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 31st minute. After 64 minutes Red Sox's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Daniel Zorita who took care of the corner kick. It was a well-played corner which Luis Andino managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Alfredo Lucantoni in the 72nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Fortunato Boldrini took the ball and in the 88 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Julio Vera. Julio Vera dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 4-3. Red Sox made a substitution. Felice Tieri replaced Francesco Festuccia. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Red Sox was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 94 match minutes in a wonderful position. Claudio Pan didn't get a good kick on the ball. Daniel Zorita came free with the goalkeeper in the 95th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Alfredo Lucantoni could save by the left post. Ecuador's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because Red Sox had won, even though Ecuador had held more of the ball.
