After a defensive mix-up in Chile's zone, Isaltino Brito stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Thiago Pliego came out of the goal and Isaltino Brito tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 90th match minute, Chile was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Guillermo Fontirroig to maneuver through the defense. In the 93rd minute José Augusto Brito shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Thiago Pliego saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 95th minute, Kaká Mota managed to get in a good position for a shot. Vila Mascote FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Kaká Mota was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Thiago Pliego breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Kaká Mota's late challenge caught a Chile's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Kaká Mota helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Chile booed when Vila Mascote FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 96 match minutes in a wonderful position. Kaká Mota didn't get a good kick on the ball. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Chile eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
