After 32 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Guillermo Mariano. Tomas Illescas recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 37th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Matthew Edwards showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tomas Illescas in the 42nd minute of the match.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Tomas Illescas to make the kick off. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Seth Tanner during the 51st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Camilo Gaos during the 65th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. An unexpectedly hard shot by Patricio Costa in the 83rd minute of play forced Club Atlético de Newell's goalkeeper Matthew Edwards to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Damon Houghton made in the 86th minute of the game a quick throw-in and Ben Powell immediately put the ball in play. In the 87th match minute, Venezuela was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Guillermo Mariano to maneuver through the defense. 92 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goal looked a bit too open when Ben Powell came free, but Jonathan Ferrant reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Venezuela players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
