In the 3rd minute of the match Daniel Zorita sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Oswaldo Velloso skillfully saved the ball. Cristian Sancho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 4th minute. Oswaldo Velloso tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Roberto Eger in the 7th minute of play. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 12th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 44 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Agustín Saelices sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Oswaldo Velloso narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Ecuador's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Daniel Zorita in the 45th minute. Daniel Zorita made a great header on Ecuador's corner, it was just that Paraná Clube PG's Oswaldo Velloso managed to reach the ball for a save. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

The supporters of Paraná Clube PG booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 92 match minutes in a wonderful position. Primitivo Andino didn't get a good kick on the ball. Paraná Clube PG's Zé Castro was substituted for André Luiz Fonseca. The Paraná Clube PG fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Ecuador were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
