The audience thought a goal was coming when Guillermo Astozas got free with Julio Vera in the 13th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Cristian Sancho might have been able to make a better finish in the 14th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Szymon Erland. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Cristian Sancho ran back to his position shaking his head. After some fancy dribbling in the 21st minute, Cristian Sancho managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Cristian Sancho was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Daniel Zorita to strike the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Ecuador booed when MILAN was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 51 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ecuador's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave MILAN the free kick. The MILAN fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Ecuador were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
