Marquês de Herval's defense didn't have a chance, in the 2nd minute, when Lautaro Mancebo scored to the left of an out of position Dida Taffarel, making the score, 1-0. 8 minutes into the game, Marquês de Herval's Alfredo Martins nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Dante Lacasa made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. Marquês de Herval were furious when Toby Major was red carded, 13 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. Dida Taffarel had in the 16thth minute some difficulties stopping Joel Gaona's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Dida Taffarel was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Alberto Tafalla showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 2-1 in the 17 minute of play. After a rather tough play, Mexico's Macos Graciani got a free kick in the 21st minute. Dida Taffarel made an important save on a dangerous shot by Alberto Tafalla in the 29th minute. Dida Taffarel was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Lautaro Mancebo showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 3-1 in the 31 minute of play. In the 38th minute, Mexico's Joel Gaona ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Dida Taffarel. Dida Taffarel yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 4-1. 41 minutes into the game, German Cano was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Marquês de Herval's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Mexico the free kick. After 47 played minutes Marquês de Herval got a freekick which was hit by José Maria Ramalho. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 4-1 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Jon Grøneng to make the kick off. When Mexico's Alberto Tafalla in the 52nd minute got a chance for a shot 52nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Marquês de Herval's goalie prevented a goal. In the 56th minute Joel Gaona shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dida Taffarel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Joel Gaona in the 61st minute of play forced Marquês de Herval's goalkeeper Dida Taffarel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Dida Taffarel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Joel Gaona in the 65th minute of the match. In the 69th minute of the game Macos Graciani made a throw-in which Luca Zorita played forward. In the 72ndth minute of the game Luca Zorita who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Marquês de Herval's Dida Taffarel was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 74th minute Joel Gaona shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dida Taffarel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Dida Taffarel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alberto Tafalla, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Dida Taffarel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Joel Gaona in the 82nd minute of play. Dida Taffarel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alberto Tafalla in the 88th minute of play. Marquês de Herval's Dida Taffarel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alberto Tafalla in the 91st minute of play. Dida Taffarel came out of the goal in the 93rd minute to try and stop a shot by Mexico's Alberto Tafalla. But to his dismay, Alberto Tafalla quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 5-1. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Mexico had played much better football throughout.
