Jonathan Ferrant didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Diego Armando Maradona went, in the 30th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-4 was the resulting score. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Diego Armando Maradona in the 34th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jonathan Ferrant saved Venezuela from getting behind. After 37 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Guillermo Mariano. Jonathan Ferrant took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Diego Armando Maradona, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 43rd minute, Diego Armando Maradona hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 47th minute Tomas Illescas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Peter-Stefan Schmeichel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-5 lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Tomas Illescas made a kick off. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal.
