An unexpectedly hard shot by Orlando Casaus in the 29th minute of play forced Espinillo's goalkeeper Suárez Yasin to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Chile were awarded a corner in the 30th minute after Espinillo's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Mariano Lacasa took the corner. Thiago Pliego showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Amado Savier, who was totally free with the ball in the 39th minute. Orlando Casaus might have been able to make a better finish in the 40th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Suárez Yasin. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Orlando Casaus ran back to his position shaking his head. Espinillo's Placido Patxi got a good chance for a goal in the 45th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The supporters of Chile booed when Espinillo was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Eloy Gorka didn't get a good kick on the ball.

The wind increased when Mariano Lacasa made the kick off in the second half. Chile walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
