Pastor Firman showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 14th minute. Club Sportivo Quilmes's Pastor Firman played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 14th minute of play. After 16 played minutes Edmílson Martins rounded Ecuador's defense and shot a beautiful shot into goal via left pole - 1-2. Ecuador were awarded a corner in the 21th minute after Club Sportivo Quilmes's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Daniel Zorita took the corner. The goalkeeper smacked the ball away after a great corner, but Juan Sebastián Puig advanced and headed the ball into goal, 1-3 in the 21st minute. Radomil Mietus could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 25th minute of the match, but Julio Vera made a huge save. In the 27th minute Edmílson Martins shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 31st minute of the match, Edmílson Martins tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Julio Vera saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. After 32 minutes Ecuador's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Waldemar Przybylo who took care of the corner kick. Julio Vera made an important save on a dangerous shot by Radomil Mietus in the 39th minute. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Felix Montes got a free kick in the 41st minute. Julio Vera had great luck who in the 42ndth minute grab hold of the ball when Edmílson Martins from a short distance tried to put the ball inside the right post. Club Sportivo Quilmes's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Waldemar Przybylo in the 44th minute. After taking down the ball on Club Sportivo Quilmes's corner Waldemar Przybylo fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Julio Vera quite easily take care of the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Ecuador's zone, Waldemar Przybylo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Julio Vera came out of the goal and Waldemar Przybylo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After the first half Ecuador were leading 1-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Daniel Zorita to strike the kick off in the second half. After some fancy dribbling in the 51st minute, Agustín Saelices managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Agustín Saelices was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Pastor Firman breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Pastor Firman made a fantastic save in the 55th minute, when Cristian Sancho sent off a good shot on target. After 56 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Juan Sebastián Puig. The audience was convinced that Edmílson Martins's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 57th minute of the game. Edmílson Martins fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 59th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. 62 minutes into the match, Edmílson Martins notched a goal, 2-3, to the right of Ecuador's Julio Vera. Julio Vera was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 66th minute, Sebastian Verón ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Julio Vera was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-3. After having played for 70 minutes, Edmílson Martins managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Club Sportivo Quilmes's supporters crossed their fingers, but Edmílson Martins was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Club Sportivo Quilmes's Pastor Firman proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 77th minute of the match, managed to save Club Sportivo Quilmes from getting a goal against them. Pastor Firman made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luis Andino in the 81st minute of play. Wlodzimierz Absolwent's late challenge caught a Ecuador's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Wlodzimierz Absolwent helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Club Sportivo Quilmes's Wlodzimierz Absolwent got a free kick in the 84th minute. After 85 minutes, Antonio Arias mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Ecuador and the Club Sportivo Quilmes players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Club Sportivo Quilmes was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 87 match minutes in a wonderful position. Wlodzimierz Absolwent didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ecuador played a much better game than Club Sportivo Quilmes and deserved their victory. The Club Sportivo Quilmes players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
