A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 22 minutes play. Agustín Saelices hit a great ball. In the 23rd minute of the match Waldemar Przybylo shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Julio Vera showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Felix Montenegro recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 25th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Sebastian Verón received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 26th minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 30th minute Agustín Saelices shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pastor Firman saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Edmílson Martins's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Julio Vera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 32nd minute of play. 34 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Edmílson Martins came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 36 minutes into the match, Club Sportivo Quilmes's goal looked a bit too open when Cristian Sancho came free, but Pastor Firman reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 59th minute, Ludomir Witkowski hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Pastor Firman was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Cristian Sancho showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-2 in the 61 minute of play. After 88 minutes of play, Club Sportivo Quilmes's Arnold Ponk made it 2-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Julio Vera was left in no man's land by his defense there! After 91 minutes, Wlodzimierz Absolwent mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Club Sportivo Quilmes and the Ecuador players grew even worse after the yellow card.
