Benicio Javiero made a fantastic save in the 11th minute, when Fausto Massa sent off a good shot on target. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gheorghe Hagi in the 12th minute of play forced Atlético Nuevo Laredo's goalkeeper Benicio Javiero to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 18th minute Fausto Massa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benicio Javiero saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Benicio Javiero took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Gheorghe Hagi, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Atlético Nuevo Laredo's Benicio Javiero played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gheorghe Hagi in the 42nd minute of play. After a rather tough play, FC SOLOTHURN's Henning Dahlbom got a free kick in the 44th minute. Carolo Bernat missed a clear chance of a goal when in the 46 minute of the game fired away a shot, but unfortunally the ball went out to the Tuncer Doğu right hand side. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Anfilogino Sasso to strike the kick off in the second half. If Fausto Massa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 54th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Valentin Orlan kicked well hit freekick during the 57th minute of the match. In the 61st minute of the match, Rodrigo Rojas tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Tuncer Doğu saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Benicio Javiero showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Panait Stolniciu in the 63rd minute of the match. Jonathan Martxot charged in rather forcefully in the 87th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Jonathan Martxot the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. FC SOLOTHURN made a substitution. Demetrio Scacchi replaced Fausto Massa. After 88 played minutes Atlético Nuevo Laredo got a freekick which was hit by Jonathan Martxot. Panait Stolniciu took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 89th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Benicio Javiero. Atlético Nuevo Laredo's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Benicio Javiero made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Demetrio Scacchi in the 90th minute of play. In the last second Tuncer Doğu throw himself and got hold of the ball when Rodrigo Rojas in the 93rdth minute from his position got away a shot towards the right post.
