Venezuela were awarded a corner in the 4th minute after UNITED's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Tomas Illescas took the corner. The audience thought a goal was coming when Graciano Teruel got free with Jonathan Ferrant in the 15th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Graciano Teruel might have been able to make a better finish in the 17th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Jonathan Ferrant. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Graciano Teruel ran back to his position shaking his head. Jonathan Ferrant made an important save on a dangerous shot by Graciano Teruel in the 17th minute. With an all-out effort, UNITED's Jonathan Ferrant threw himself towards the right post 19 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Graciano Teruel, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. After 22 played minutes UNITED got a freekick which was hit by Eder Saavedra. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Tomas Illescas in the 27th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Emilio Pujol prevented the ball from getting in the gole. If Eder Saavedra had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 30th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 39th minute Tomas Illescas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Emilio Pujol saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Venezuela booed when UNITED was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 41 match minutes in a wonderful position. Elmas Bobo didn't get a good kick on the ball. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Tomas Illescas was the one to do the kick off. Graciano Teruel recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 51st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Emilio Pujol made a fantastic save in the 57th minute, when Tomas Illescas sent off a good shot on target. In the 86th minute, Graciano Teruel left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The UNITED fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-1. The audience thought a goal was coming when Tomas Illescas got free with Emilio Pujol in the 89th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The teams fought very hard right up to the final whistle. Both sets of players were happy to go away with a draw.
