Venezuela's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Manuel Balint ran over to the corner to take the kick. When Manuel Balint came up free with the goalie in the 11th minute, the U 1974 fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Manuel Balint couldn't finish the play. 15 minutes into the game, Mihnea Păvăloae was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. U 1974's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Venezuela the free kick. Alex Chicote hit a great freekick 20 minutes into the match. After having played for 23 minutes, Tomas Illescas managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Venezuela's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tomas Illescas was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Jonathan Ferrant showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Octavian Hârtopanu in the 30th minute of the match. Eneto Vidal fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 31st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jonathan Ferrant having to interfere. If Patricio Costa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 33rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Eneto Vidal came free with the goalkeeper in the 35th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Jonathan Ferrant could save by the left post. Tomas Illescas sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Tomas Illescas received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. Estefan Vizcarreto tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Through an outstanding action, after 42 minutes, Jonathan Ferrant successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. 44 minutes into the game, Octavian Hârtopanu was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. U 1974's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Venezuela the free kick. The supporters of Venezuela booed when U 1974 was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position. Octavian Hârtopanu didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.
The wind increased when Tomas Illescas made the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, Venezuela's Patricio Costa got a free kick in the 51st minute. Tomas Illescas who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 54thth minute tested the skills of Estefan Vizcarreto when he managed to save the team from getting behind. If Octavian Hârtopanu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 58th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 60th minute, Octavian Hârtopanu got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 61st match minute, U 1974 was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cornel Simuţ to maneuver through the defense. Estefan Vizcarreto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tomas Illescas in the 66th minute of play. Tomas Illescas succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 0-1 in the 66th playminute. Estefan Vizcarreto showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Patricio Costa in the 70th minute of the match. After 70 minutes of play, Venezuela's Patricio Costa made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Estefan Vizcarreto was left in no man's land by his defense there! U 1974's Gică Măcrineanu was substituted for Robert Andriescu. Jonathan Ferrant showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Octavian Hârtopanu, who was totally free with the ball in the 77th minute. 77 minutes into the match, Octavian Hârtopanu notched a goal, 1-2, to the right of Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant. After a rather tough play, U 1974's Cornel Simuţ got a free kick in the 97th minute. Estefan Vizcarreto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Patricio Costa in the 98th minute of play. Venezuela were delighted with the way they had won the match. They had held their defensive line well and made the most of their chances, to claim a victory over U 1974's much stronger midfield.
