An unexpectedly hard shot by Iosif Gurlui in the 8th minute of play forced Uruguay's goalkeeper Joaquin Gayoso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Zsigmond Pál didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Francisco Seco went, in the 10th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. The F.C. Baia Mare -MM- fans' excitement grew in the 14th match minute when F.C. Baia Mare -MM-'s George Buzoianu looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. After 18 played minutes Uruguay got a freekick which was hit by Jorge Sainz. Joaquin Gayoso made an important save on a dangerous shot by George Buzoianu in the 20th minute. George Buzoianu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 27th minute. Joaquin Gayoso tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. George Buzoianu might have been able to make a better finish in the 31st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Joaquin Gayoso. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. George Buzoianu ran back to his position shaking his head. Joaquin Gayoso made an important save on a dangerous shot by George Buzoianu in the 31st minute. In the 32nd minute, Iosif Gurlui hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If George Buzoianu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. George Buzoianu could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 36th minute of the match, but Joaquin Gayoso made a huge save. With a little luck, Uruguay's Joaquin Gayoso got control of the ball when George Buzoianu tried to sneak it across the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Francisco Seco in the 45th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Zsigmond Pál prevented the ball from getting in the gole. George Buzoianu received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 46th minute. Joaquin Gayoso tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Alberto Gisbert hit a great freekick 68 minutes into the match. Manuel Tărbac's late challenge caught a Uruguay's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Manuel Tărbac helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, F.C. Baia Mare -MM-'s Manuel Tărbac got a free kick in the 70th minute. If George Buzoianu had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. Maximiliano Escribano sent away a hard shot on goal in the 90th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 93rd minute of the game. One of Uruguay:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of F.C. Baia Mare -MM-:s goal.
