Cristian Sancho recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 10th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Andres Ariando made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 16th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lisandro Nafarroa in the 20th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Zeledon Leoiar charged in rather forcefully in the 21st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Zeledon Leoiar the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Zeledon Leoiar kicked well hit freekick during the 21st minute of the match. Apolo Martxelin kicked well hit freekick during the 29th minute of the match. Apolo Martxelin hit a great freekick 38 minutes into the match. 42 minutes into the game, Felix Montenegro was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Ecuador's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Monsalvo the free kick. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 42 minutes play. Felix Montenegro hit a great ball. In the 46th minute, Felix Montes hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Paulino Ekhi made a kick off. 52 minutes into the match, Monsalvo's goalkeeper Andres Ariando had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Cristian Sancho. After 63 played minutes Monsalvo got a freekick which was hit by Edvaldo Senna. After 65 played minutes Monsalvo got a freekick which was hit by Lisandro Nafarroa. The supporters of Monsalvo booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 73 match minutes in a wonderful position. Primitivo Andino didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Paulino Ekhi in the 74th minute of play. Daniel Zorita came free with the goalkeeper in the 82nd minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Andres Ariando could save by the left post. After having played for 91 minutes, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Monsalvo's Andres Ariando proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 92nd minute of the match, managed to save Monsalvo from getting a goal against them. Cristian Sancho struck a weak shot in the 94th minute. Andres Ariando didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. Ecuador were clearly unhappy with the draw, as they felt they had done enough to earn themselves a victory.
