Ter Stegen made a fantastic save in the 25th minute, when Tomas Illescas sent off a good shot on target. Jonathan Ferrant made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Enzo Romero in the 26th minute of play. Tomas Illescas might have been able to make a better finish in the 29th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ter Stegen. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Tomas Illescas ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 36th minute, Gabri Casals hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 38th match minute, Venezuela was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jose Correa to maneuver through the defense. Tomas Illescas blasted a shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Ter Stegen having to make a save. Jonathan Ferrant showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gabri Casals in the 43rd minute of the match. After 46 minutes of play Venezuela's Patricio Costa was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. Patricio Costa hit a great freekick 46 minutes into the match. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Nguyễn Phuoc to strike the kick off in the second half. Jonathan Ferrant took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Nguyễn Phuoc, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
