The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

It was a penalty for Venezuela! 93 minutes into the game, Villa Mitre City's Mauricio Macías nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Jonathan Ferrant made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-0. The supporters of Venezuela booed when Villa Mitre City was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 97 match minutes in a wonderful position. Benigno Ibañez didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 99th minute Camilo Gaos shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ariel Ponc saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Tomas Illescas struck a weak shot in the 101st minute. Ariel Ponc didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Venezuela.
