He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Julio Vera. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Donato Bordon having to interfere. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.

In the 52nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Esbjerg fB's goalkeeper Donato Bordon, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 53 minutes had been played when some careless play by Esbjerg fB's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Daniel Zorita was slow to take the kick. During this time Ecuador's players had a chance to rest. Cristian Sancho struck a weak shot in the 57th minute. Donato Bordon didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. In the 82nd minute, Felix Montenegro reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Donato Bordon. The goal made the score 2-6. With a little luck, Esbjerg fB's Donato Bordon got control of the ball when Felix Montenegro tried to sneak it across the goal line. Donato Bordon made a fantastic save in the 88th minute, when Daniel Zorita sent off a good shot on target. Donato Bordon was out of position in the 88 minute of play, and Daniel Zorita capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Daniel Zorita really showed his touch with that goal: 2-7. 91 minutes into the game, Ecuador's Cristian Sancho nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Donato Bordon made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-8. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rune Griffenfeld, who was totally free with the ball in the 94th minute. In the 95th minute, Severin Torbell hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ecuador's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
