Emerson Leão came out of the goal and Luis Andino tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Gao Kun Mo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 25thth minute of the game Gao Kun Mo who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ecuador's Julio Vera was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 26th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Emerson Leão saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Edvard Gråberg came up free with the goalie in the 31st minute, the São Paulo Leste F.C. fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Edvard Gråberg couldn't finish the play. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Emerson Leão having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Agustín Saelices in the 35th minute of play forced São Paulo Leste F.C.'s goalkeeper Emerson Leão to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ecuador were awarded a corner in the 38th minute after São Paulo Leste F.C.'s defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Daniel Zorita took the corner. Daniel Zorita made a great header on Ecuador's corner, it was just that São Paulo Leste F.C.'s Emerson Leão managed to reach the ball for a save. After having played for 40 minutes, Felix Montenegro managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Felix Montenegro was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 45th minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Emerson Leão saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gao Kun Mo in the 47th minute of play. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Cristian Sancho blasted a shot towards the goal in the 54th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Emerson Leão having to make a save. Paulo Renato Vidal hit a great freekick 59 minutes into the match. In the 61st minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Emerson Leão saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 62 minutes into the game, São Paulo Leste F.C.'s Gao Kun Mo nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Julio Vera made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. 68 minutes into the game, Juan Sebastián Puig lined in a short shot 1-1 behind a frustrated Emerson Leão. After 73 played minutes São Paulo Leste F.C. got a freekick which was hit by Gao Kun Mo. Emerson Leão made an important save on a dangerous shot by Daniel Zorita in the 75th minute. In the 76th minute Ecuador were awarded a corner. Daniel Zorita went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner led to Ecuador's Luis Andino getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. Luis Andino's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Emerson Leão read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 77th minute of play. Felix Montenegro hit a great freekick 78 minutes into the match. When Edvard Gråberg came up free with the goalie in the 80th minute, the São Paulo Leste F.C. fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Edvard Gråberg couldn't finish the play. Stanislaw Turacki hit a great freekick 82 minutes into the match. A collision led to São Paulo Leste F.C. getting a freekick after 85 minutes play. Leendert Looze hit a great ball.
