Elbert Haar was out of position in the 6 minute of play, and Felix Montenegro capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Felix Montenegro really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. Daniel Zorita's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Elbert Haar firmly grabbed it by the left post. With his leg Elbert Haar managed to avoid a goal in the 11thth minute, when Ecuador's Felix Montenegro fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Felix Montenegros short, quick shot in the 11thth minute got Elbert Haar to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. If Haroldo Weather had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 16th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Luis Andino fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Elbert Haar having to interfere. Elbert Haar made an important save on a dangerous shot by Felix Montenegro in the 24th minute. Pannekoeken's Elbert Haar played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 26th minute of play. Daniel Zorita's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 29thth minute, Elbert Haar skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. In the 35th minute, Jeremie Van Deijck hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Pannekoeken was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 36 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hugon Wolicki didn't get a good kick on the ball. Haroldo Weather's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Julio Vera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 56th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Agustín Saelices in the 58th minute of play forced Pannekoeken's goalkeeper Elbert Haar to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Agustín Saelices fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 88th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Elbert Haar having to interfere. Elbert Haar made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 90th minute of play. Cristian Sancho struck a weak shot in the 93rd minute. Elbert Haar didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. Luis Andino recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 95th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. There was no doubt that Ecuador were the better team. Ecuador's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
