The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Nery Pumpido stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Mariano Lacasa's shot from short distance in the 5th minute. When the match had gone on for 5 minutes, Mariano Lacasa put it in 1-0 from a short distance just to the right of Nery Pumpido. GuateFortín's Nery Pumpido played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Orlando Casaus in the 8th minute of play. Sven-Edvin Jansson's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Thiago Pliego read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 12th minute of play. With a little luck, GuateFortín's Nery Pumpido got control of the ball when Orlando Casaus tried to sneak it across the goal line. 15 minutes into the match, GuateFortín's Sven-Edvin Jansson sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Thiago Pliego narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Máximo Perrone's late challenge caught a Chile's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Máximo Perrone helped the player get up and apologised. GuateFortín made a substitution. Severo Rameriz replaced Stanyo Búnkov. Máximo Perrone hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. In the 23rd minute of the match, Mariano Lacasa got a very nice opportunity to score, but Nery Pumpido was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. In the 26th minute, Mariano Lacasa got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. GuateFortín's Nery Pumpido proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 38th minute of the match, managed to save GuateFortín from getting a goal against them. Nery Pumpido made an important save on a dangerous shot by Mariano Lacasa in the 40th minute. The audience was convinced that Mariano Lacasa's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Nery Pumpido was relentless in the 40th minute of the game. A collision led to GuateFortín getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Sven-Edvin Jansson hit a great ball. Mariano Lacasa might have been able to make a better finish in the 43rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Nery Pumpido. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Mariano Lacasa ran back to his position shaking his head. 43 minutes into the match, GuateFortín's goal looked a bit too open when Mariano Lacasa came free, but Nery Pumpido reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The wind increased when Mariano Lacasa made the kick off in the second half. When Mariano Lacasa fell near the penalty area in the 51st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Chile's protests and gave Mariano Lacasa a yellow card for diving instead. After 51 played minutes Chile got a freekick which was hit by Mariano Lacasa. In the 55th match minute, GuateFortín was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Thierry Henry to maneuver through the defense. If Mariano Lacasa had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 60th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mariano Lacasa in the 60th minute of play forced GuateFortín's goalkeeper Nery Pumpido to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. GuateFortín's Pablo Mora was substituted for Máximo Perrone. 64 minutes into the match, GuateFortín's goal looked a bit too open when Mariano Lacasa came free, but Nery Pumpido reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The corner led Chile's Mariano Lacasa to fire away a dangerous shot which Nery Pumpido despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. In the 72nd minute, Felix Garrido hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 73 minutes into the game, Felix Garrido was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Chile's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave GuateFortín the free kick. A collision led to Chile getting a freekick after 73 minutes play. Felix Garrido hit a great ball. When Chile's Mariano Lacasa in the 76th minute got a chance for a shot 76th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye GuateFortín's goalie prevented a goal. Nery Pumpido took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mariano Lacasa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Mariano Lacasa's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Nery Pumpido read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 89th minute of play. In the 92nd play minute Sven-Edvin Jansson came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Thiago Pliego. 1-1.
