In the 5th minute, Deilmison van Basten ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Benito Sanz was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. If Deilmison van Basten had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 9th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Lautaro Puig kicked well hit freekick during the 10th minute of the match. Deilmison van Basten took the ball and in the 11 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Benito Sanz. Benito Sanz dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. Benito Sanz came out of the goal in the 17th minute to try and stop a shot by ATHLETICO PRaiano's Deilmison van Basten. But to his dismay, Deilmison van Basten quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-3. Deilmison van Basten took the ball and in the 24 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Benito Sanz. Benito Sanz dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-4. ATHLETICO PRaiano's Vítor Roque was substituted for Betão Marquez. Deilmison van Basten might have been able to make a better finish in the 31st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Benito Sanz. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Deilmison van Basten ran back to his position shaking his head. Benito Sanz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Deilmison van Basten, who was totally free with the ball in the 31st minute. If Deilmison van Basten had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 36 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Deilmison van Basten came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 38th minute, Deilmison van Basten ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Benito Sanz was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-5. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-5 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

When the match had gone on for 52 minutes, Deilmison van Basten put it in 0-6 from a short distance just to the right of Benito Sanz. Benito Sanz made an important save on a dangerous shot by Deilmison van Basten in the 59th minute. Efrain Moruga hit a great freekick 60 minutes into the match. After 61 minutes of play, ATHLETICO PRaiano's Deilmison van Basten made it 0-8 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Benito Sanz was left in no man's land by his defense there! Deilmison van Basten sent away a hard shot on goal in the 65th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Benito Sanz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Deilmison van Basten, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Benito Sanz came out of the goal in the 69th minute to try and stop a shot by ATHLETICO PRaiano's Deilmison van Basten. But to his dismay, Deilmison van Basten quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-10. When the match had gone on for 73 minutes, Deilmison van Basten put it in 0-11 from a short distance just to the right of Benito Sanz. In the 77th minute, Deilmison van Basten ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Benito Sanz was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-12. The supporters of Costa Rica booed when ATHLETICO PRaiano was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 82 match minutes in a wonderful position. Deilmison van Basten didn't get a good kick on the ball. Deilmison van Basten took the ball and in the 84 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Benito Sanz. Benito Sanz dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-13. Rodriguinho Sousa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Aaron Alcocer in the 87th minute of play. A hard shot 89 in the game by Deilmison van Basten from a close distance when the talented Benito Sanz managed to make a qualified save. Costa Rica's players were relieved. Alexander Carballo's late challenge caught a ATHLETICO PRaiano's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Alexander Carballo helped the player get up and apologised. In the 90th minute, Alexander Carballo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 92 minutes into the match, Denílson Magalhães notched a goal, 0-14, to the right of Costa Rica's Benito Sanz. Benito Sanz was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Deilmison van Basten kicked well hit freekick during the 95th minute of the match. When the final whistle sounded ATHLETICO PRaiano left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Costa Rica.
