USA's Marco Day played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Leandro Soares in the 4th minute of play. David Wilmink kicked well hit freekick during the 8th minute of the match. Marco Day made an important save on a dangerous shot by Leandro Soares in the 16th minute. Mitchel Dijkstra took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Monty Rogers, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The crowd rose to their feet as Leandro Soares kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Marco Day. That made the score 1-0 in the 24 minute of play. In the 26th minute Monty Rogers shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mitchel Dijkstra saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 27th minute, Damien Bakker hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. A sloppy throw-in by Raphael Moore in the 30th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Fc Benefica's David Wilmink. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cassius Byrne in the 38th minute of play forced Fc Benefica's goalkeeper Mitchel Dijkstra to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Mitchel Dijkstra showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Monty Rogers, who was totally free with the ball in the 40th minute. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Leandro Soares to make the kick off. If Leandro Soares had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 51st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Marco Day took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Leandro Soares, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 53 minutes into the match, USA's goal looked a bit too open when Leandro Soares came free, but Marco Day reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Cassius Byrne scored 1-1 in the 70th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Mitchel Dijkstra, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Marco Day showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jens van Basten in the 85th minute of the match. With a little luck, Fc Benefica's Mitchel Dijkstra got control of the ball when Marco Baker tried to sneak it across the goal line. Marco Day came out of the goal in the 90th minute to try and stop a shot by Fc Benefica's Leandro Soares. But to his dismay, Leandro Soares quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. The supporters of USA booed when Fc Benefica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 92 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jens van Basten didn't get a good kick on the ball. Sam Campbell could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 94th minute of the match, but Mitchel Dijkstra made a huge save. Many of USA's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. USA may have spent more time on the ball, but Fc Benefica were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
