With an extended leg and a bit of luck Julio Vera prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Banan Balle made an important save on a dangerous shot by Daniel Zorita in the 91st minute. Sebastião Gaspar kicked well hit freekick during the 96th minute of the match. The Ecuador supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Ecuador would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
