Nemesio Baladi was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 84 minutes play. Luis Andino hit a great ball. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ecuador's Felix Montenegro got a good chance for a goal in the 93rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. There was no doubt that Ecuador were the better team. Ecuador's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
