The Ecuador fans' excitement grew in the 17th match minute when Ecuador's Antonio Arias looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-3 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Cristian Sancho took the ball and in the 20 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Kenneth Kvarnström. Kenneth Kvarnström dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-4. Kenneth Kvarnström showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 25th minute. Daniel Zorita recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 27th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 29th minute, Daniel Zorita made a precise shot to the right of Kenneth Kvarnström. Snett★inåt★bakåt's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-5. Kenneth Kvarnström showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 32nd minute. After the first half Ecuador were leading 0-5. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Fernando Carvalhal to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 75th match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Camilo Gisbert to maneuver through the defense. Hugo Kuse, 76 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. After having played for 81 minutes, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Fernando Carvalhal, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Daniel Zorita came free with the goalkeeper in the 86th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Kenneth Kvarnström could save by the left post. When Daniel Zorita came up free with the goalie in the 87th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Daniel Zorita couldn't finish the play.
