With his leg Walmyr Rossi managed to avoid a goal in the 13thth minute, when Ecuador's Daniel Zorita fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. 14 minutes into the match, LIVERPOOL's goalkeeper Walmyr Rossi had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Felix Montenegro. The supporters of Ecuador booed when LIVERPOOL was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 26 match minutes in a wonderful position. Volodymyr Bakhurynsjkyi didn't get a good kick on the ball. Walmyr Rossi acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 26th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Daniel Zorita. Daniel Zorita scored 1-0 in the 28th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Walmyr Rossi, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After 30 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Daniel Zorita. Agustín Saelices sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 40 minutes of play, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Walmyr Rossi was left in no man's land by his defense there! All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Daniel Zorita stepped up to make the kick off in the second half.
