Daniel Zorita struck a weak shot in the 7th minute. Cláudio Maranhense didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. After some careless play in the Ponticella Stars defense, Daniel Zorita kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Cláudio Maranhense. The Ponticella Stars fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Cláudio Maranhense should have stopped the shot. Edgar Sigfridsson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 13th minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Cláudio Maranhense showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 15th minute of the match. 17 minutes into the match, Ponticella Stars's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Cláudio Maranhense reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 21st minute, Cristian Sancho ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Cláudio Maranhense was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. The supporters of Ponticella Stars booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 26 match minutes in a wonderful position. Camilo Gisbert didn't get a good kick on the ball. 27 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Edgar Sigfridsson came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 30 minutes of play, Ecuador's Agustín Saelices made it 0-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Cláudio Maranhense was left in no man's land by his defense there! Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Edgar Sigfridsson in the 42nd minute of play. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Daniel Zorita was the one to do the kick off. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cristian Sancho was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Ponticella Stars's Edgar Sigfridsson got a good chance for a goal in the 60th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 61st minute of the match, Felix Montenegro got a very nice opportunity to score, but Cláudio Maranhense was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. With a little luck, Ponticella Stars's Cláudio Maranhense got control of the ball when Felix Montenegro tried to sneak it across the goal line. Daniel Zorita had several of the Ponticella Stars's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 64 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 1-5 score and a disappointed Cláudio Maranhense as he didn't even see the shot coming. The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Cláudio Maranhense in the 69th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Cláudio Maranhense made an important save on a dangerous shot by Daniel Zorita in the 71st minute. Daniel Zorita could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 73rd minute of the match, but Cláudio Maranhense made a huge save. Mark Busuttil hit a great freekick 74 minutes into the match. Ponticella Stars's Adrian Lowell was substituted for Ciro Tieri. Ponticella Stars's Cedric Marmara was substituted for John Dingli. In the 75th minute, Mark Busuttil hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cláudio Maranhense having to interfere. Ponticella Stars's Cláudio Maranhense played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 95th minute of play. Ponticella Stars's Cláudio Maranhense proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 96th minute of the match, managed to save Ponticella Stars from getting a goal against them. When the final whistle sounded Ecuador left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Ponticella Stars.
