Uruguay's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. In the 6th minute, Freddy Valentine made a precise shot to the right of Joaquin Gayoso. Uruguay's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. Joaquin Gayoso showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Freddy Valentine, who was totally free with the ball in the 9th minute. If Freddy Valentine had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 11th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Joaquin Gayoso took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Freddy Valentine, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 18th minute, Laurids Grejsen got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Niki Bundev took the ball and in the 20 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Joaquin Gayoso. Joaquin Gayoso dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. The supporters of Yala booed when Uruguay was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 24 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jorge Sainz didn't get a good kick on the ball. Joaquin Gayoso made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Raimundo Frans in the 25th minute of play. If Niki Bundev had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 28th minute of the match Alberto Jaunti sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Joaquin Gayoso skillfully saved the ball. In the 33rd minute of the match, Maximiliano Escribano tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Zeledon Curcio saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Freddy Valentine hit a great freekick 39 minutes into the match. In the 41st minute, Camilo Covarrubias hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Freddy Valentine in the 42nd minute of play forced Uruguay's goalkeeper Joaquin Gayoso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 43rd minute of the match Yala got a corner. Uruguay's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Raimundo Frans ran over to the corner to take the kick. 46 minutes into the match, Yala's goal looked a bit too open when Alberto Gisbert came free, but Zeledon Curcio reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Francisco Seco was the one to do the kick off. Maximiliano Escribano sent away a hard shot on goal in the 55th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Yala's Zeledon Curcio played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Maximiliano Escribano in the 63rd minute of play. Uruguay's Joaquin Gayoso proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 64th minute of the match, managed to save Uruguay from getting a goal against them. In the 67th match minute, Yala was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gao Cheng Fei to maneuver through the defense. After 67 played minutes, Uruguay's Jaime Cazalla shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Zeledon Curcio came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Uruguay reached it. Alberto Gisbert sent away a hard shot on goal in the 73rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 74 minutes into the game, Kevin Carballal was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Uruguay's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Yala the free kick. In the 74th match minute, Uruguay was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Kevin Carballal to maneuver through the defense. 75 minutes into the match, Uruguay's goal looked a bit too open when Raimundo Frans came free, but Joaquin Gayoso reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. They had held their defensive line well and made the most of their chances, to claim a victory over Uruguay's much stronger midfield.
