Fergus Fairbairn made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. When Abram Luque fell near the penalty area in the 14th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored El Salvador's protests and gave Abram Luque a yellow card for diving instead. In the 14th match minute, El Salvador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Abram Luque to maneuver through the defense. The referee felt a red card was in order, 17 minutes into the game, when Darius Bontine put in a rough tackle. Darius Bontine kicked well hit freekick during the 18th minute of the match. Fergus Fairbairn stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Moises Fernandino's shot from short distance in the 19th minute. Jesus Carvallo kicked well hit freekick during the 20th minute of the match. 23 minutes into the match, Rangers FC's goal looked a bit too open when Abram Luque came free, but Fergus Fairbairn reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Moises Fernandino had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Fergus Fairbairn made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Abram Luque in the 31st minute of play. Ricardo Zorita made an important save on a dangerous shot by Danny Gilespie in the 32nd minute. Fergus Fairbairn showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Abram Luque in the 33rd minute of the match. After 36 minutes of play, El Salvador's Moises Fernandino made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Fergus Fairbairn was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 41st match minute, Rangers FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ronan McLaws to maneuver through the defense. Abram Luque hit a great freekick 45 minutes into the match. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The wind increased when Danny Gilespie made the kick off in the second half. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Moises Fernandino during the 52nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to El Salvador getting a freekick after 52 minutes play. Moises Fernandino hit a great ball. Moises Fernandino struck a weak shot in the 55th minute. Fergus Fairbairn didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for El Salvador. If Connor Alsop had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 59th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Ricardo Zorita made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Danny Gilespie in the 65th minute of play. Rangers FC's Fergus Fairbairn proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 73rd minute of the match, managed to save Rangers FC from getting a goal against them. In the 76th minute Danny Gilespie shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ricardo Zorita saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, El Salvador's Moises Fernandino got a free kick in the 78th minute. 82 minutes into the match, Danny Gilespie had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Ricardo Zorita. El Salvador's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Danny Gilespie was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. 85 minutes into the match, El Salvador's goal looked a bit too open when Connor Alsop came free, but Ricardo Zorita reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Rangers FC's zone, Moises Fernandino stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Fergus Fairbairn came out of the goal and Moises Fernandino tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. With a little luck, Rangers FC's Fergus Fairbairn got control of the ball when Moises Fernandino tried to sneak it across the goal line. After having played for 96 minutes, Stevie McGilvray managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Rangers FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Stevie McGilvray was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When the match was over El Salvador could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Rangers FC throughout the match.
