With an all-out effort, Ecuador's Nicolas Olejmeulen threw himself towards the right post 19 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Cristian Sancho, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. The crowd rose to their feet as Ecuador's Daniel Zorita slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Nicolas Olejmeulen. That made the score 1-0 after 23 minutes of play. The audience was convinced that Karl-Magnus Tidén's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 26th minute of the game. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Eskil Engström in the 29th minute of play. Eskil Engström fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. Nicolas Olejmeulen made a fantastic save in the 32nd minute, when Daniel Zorita sent off a good shot on target. 33 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Eskil Engström came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Villiam Forsberg hit a great freekick 37 minutes into the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Nicolas Olejmeulen in the 39th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 46th match minute, Sputchi FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ulf Hamnberg to maneuver through the defense. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

The wind increased when Daniel Zorita made the kick off in the second half. Ecuador's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Daniel Zorita in the 54th minute. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Sputchi FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 56 match minutes in a wonderful position. Svante Lundblad didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 57th minute of the match Daniel Zorita shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Nicolas Olejmeulen showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 61st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nicolas Olejmeulen having to interfere. Eskil Engström recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 66th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Daniel Zorita in the 70th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Nicolas Olejmeulen prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After 71 played minutes Sputchi FC got a freekick which was hit by Svante Lundblad. Cristian Sancho struck a weak shot in the 77th minute. Nicolas Olejmeulen didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. In the 93rd minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nicolas Olejmeulen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After taking down the ball on Ecuador's corner Luis Andino fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Nicolas Olejmeulen quite easily take care of the ball.
