If Mario Fernandino had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 10th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 21 minutes into the match, Bolivia's goal looked a bit too open when Ron McLeish came free, but Camilo Freixa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 24 played minutes Rangers FC got a freekick which was hit by Angus Howison. A collision led to Bolivia getting a freekick after 27 minutes play. Eduardo Fontirroig hit a great ball. Camilo Freixa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Danny Gilespie in the 32nd minute of play. Eduardo Fontirroig kicked well hit freekick during the 37th minute of the match. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The wind increased when Danny Gilespie made the kick off in the second half. Camilo Freixa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Stevie McGilvray, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 54th minute the ball was on its way in behind Bolivia's goalkeeper Camilo Freixa, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Rangers FC were awarded a corner in the 55th minute after Bolivia's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Ronan McLaws took the corner. After a rather tough play, Bolivia's Mario Fernandino got a free kick in the 58th minute. After having played for 62 minutes, Julio Chicote managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Bolivia's supporters crossed their fingers, but Julio Chicote was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The supporters of Rangers FC booed when Bolivia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 68 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alfonso de la Cruz didn't get a good kick on the ball. When Danny Gilespie came up free with the goalie in the 73rd minute, the Rangers FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Danny Gilespie couldn't finish the play. In the 81st minute, Alfredo Ferrant ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Fergus Fairbairn was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. If Danny Gilespie had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 85th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 87 minutes of play, Bolivia's Eduardo Fontirroig made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Fergus Fairbairn was left in no man's land by his defense there! When Mario Fernandino fell near the penalty area in the 92nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Bolivia's protests and gave Mario Fernandino a yellow card for diving instead. For all the effort they put into the match, the Rangers FC players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Bolivia.
