INDEPENDIENTE FUTBOL CLUB's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Valdir Neves ran over to the corner to take the kick. A nice corner shot did that Dênis Faria got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Pepe Santoro quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. 25 minutes into the game, Goiás Esporte Clube's Marcus Diniz nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Pepe Santoro made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. In the 44th minute, Marcus Diniz got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After some careless play in the INDEPENDIENTE FUTBOL CLUB defense, Marcus Diniz kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Pepe Santoro. The INDEPENDIENTE FUTBOL CLUB fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Pepe Santoro should have stopped the shot. Af the end of the first half the score was 5-0. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Marcus Diniz made a kick off. Goiás Esporte Clube were awarded a corner in the 69th minute after INDEPENDIENTE FUTBOL CLUB's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line.
